Satay is one of the most popular street foods. It originated in Indonesia and has spread to other countries including Southeast Asia. Originally, it can be made from meat such as chicken, cow, or lamb can be marinated with spices then skewered and grilled on fire but it is relatively easy to switch from meat to vegan ingredients, such as tofu, which works well with the marinate. It can be eated with peanut sauce and another dip called ajaad.
As for the satay It can be marinated with coriander seeds, turmeric, galangal, cumin, pepper, curry powder, coconut sugar, and coconut milk. The peanut sauce used as a dipping sauce has a complex flavor that can incorporate two curry pastes: massaman curry paste and red curry paste. The curry pastes are stir-fried in coconut milk then coconut sugar, salt, tamarind paste, and peanuts are added to make the peanut sauce. Satay can be enjoyed with Ajard for a contrasting taste and texture.
